This works for bass too I imagine? 😂 I wanna try it but I live in Oklahoma so my options are different types of bass.
@kgraham64kg try it! You might be able to order Mack's wiggle bills online and hoochies come in many sizes and colors.
what size buzzbomb did you use? and have you tried targeting kokanee in another way without using the downriggers?
I like to use 3 inch heavy buzz bombs and 4 inch buzz bombs. Without downriggers, I have tried long lining a heavy dodger and done well, but I prefer jigging for kokanee. Here's one of a few videos I made. ua-cam.com/video/zR9TOuDp4Kw/v-deo.htmlsi=es1ykJ-hGSm0qPVi

I also have the striker 4 vivid. Do you have a video of how to locate the thermocline in the water column?
Not yet. I haven't noticed or played with the settings on the Garmin Striker 4 to try and find the thermocline because normally I can mark fish and I target those at depth.
I have a Striker Plus 4… when I lower the downrigger ball it continuously show’s multiple fish… I’ve tried to resolve it by lowering the gain but didn’t help… also, how far back do you run the flasher/dodger from the weight in 20 feet of water when trolling for Kokanee?
Do you have the fish symbol setting turned on. If so, I would turn that off. I prefer to see only signature returns on the fish finder so I can interpret the readings myself. For kokanee fishing at 20ft, the setback varies between 75 ft and 125 ft on average. I'd start with a 75 ft setback and work back from there if not getting a bite.
Thanks
You're welcome. I'm glad you like it
Ya, if you have a fish on your line you yank her in.
As a non-boating angler... I use a 5 gal bucket with holes drilled in it on a rope rather than a stringer, I keep my fish alive until I gut them then they go on ice. If I'm fishing locally, I just keep them alive all the way home and gut them there. EDIT: WARNING: This may not be legal in your area. It's always a good idea to check the local laws where your fishing as the laws varry from place to place and something your used to may not be acceptable if angling outside of your local area. This I thought wise to add in light of replies.
This might work in the area of the country that you live in, but here in British Columbia we are not allowed to have live fish in our possession. We must dispatch the fish we intended to keep and keeping them on ice is the best way to keep them fresh until we get home.
@@FougereFamilyAdventures thank you, I edited my comment to mention that it's advisable to check the local laws where one plans to fish.
That's great. It's always good to remember to follow your local fishing regulations.
Another great video. Can I ask, is there a lake /resort that comes to mind around there that has a nice resort for the wife to enjoy in our 5th wheel, while I get out in the belly boat?
If I remember right, Ruth Lake lodge had campsites, but it's been a while since I've been there. If you're looking for a place for the 5th wheel and a lake that is relatively small for a belly boat, give Russ and Michelle a call at Moosehaven Resort on Hathaway Lake. It's by far one of my favorite resorts in the Cariboo.
thats awesome! thanks for showing your setup. i have the same garmin. i must admit im going to copy your setup... thanks again
I'm glad you like it and that it will help you. There are lots of guys doing this in my area. It's a great way to store your fish finder, batteries and gear. You can even add USB chargers and glow cups as an add on. One thing I would do differently next time is consider some foam padding inside the case (but not too much as to take away storage space). Just use enough to protect the Garmin Striker 4 screen ad mine has has cracked on the edges.
great video! do you have a video of how you have you garmin mounted on that box?
I'm glad you liked it. This is my fish finder tackle box video. I love this way of mounting the Gsrmin, because it keeps it waterproof for ice fishing. ua-cam.com/video/WgJtsNb08tI/v-deo.htmlsi=hc0HDYlkH2o0Jila

I’ve read it’s not good to let them run dry.
Let what run dry?
Have you ever taken a bear spray training course?
No. I would love to, but I've never seen any advertised in my area. Who does them?
Love my Garmin Stryker 4! Except when I close my eyes at night after a day fishing, all I can see are fish marks 😂
They are amazing aren't they?
What happened to the vid for the last minute? Just went dark.
Austin shut the camera off, but I thought there was still some good conversation about my first experience so I left the audio on. I'll definitely be doing a few more bear spray videos in the future tp help myself and others learn.
Don't test in an urban area if using real spray. The spray can drift quite a distance and get into buildings through ventilation systems (Don't ask). Interesting I haven't seen the test spray option. For transporting cans in vehicles we put them in a home made sealed drain pipe with screw top. If you do "test" with real spray...make sure you use it all and discard following the instructions. Have water for eye wash and hand wash...even with no wind you can get residual on your clothing and hands. It is hard to resist...we had several cans that we found people had "Tested" ( without telling anyone or marking the cans) thus reducing the amount of spray left.
Good information, Larry. Do you know where to recycle an unused can of bear spray? I haven't really given it any thought until I made this video.
Question, how did you rig it? Did you use a dodger/flasher, and if so, what was your leader length? Did you tip it with bait or scent? Thanks!
I tied it straight to my mainline. I usually put one or 2 pieces of my scented corn or mealworms on it to help entice a strike, but they will hit it bare hook as well.

No. The Garmin Striker 4 is not connected to the motor. As far as I know, it does not record the time it is on either.

Thank you for uploading. I just had a very frustrating day of fishing where my stringer was consumed by turtles. Back to Walmart for some ice packs!!!
Oh wow! I've never heard of that. Yikes! Ice and a cooler should help that problem.
@@FougereFamilyAdventures I was very confused about how to feel for the day. When I pulled up the stringer, a large snapper about the size of my chest was attached - I thought it was a log until the claws came out of the water. In hindsight it was amazing. I'm about to start kayak fishing and I'm thinking about trying a soft cooler like one of those hot/cold bags at Walmart. Thank you so much for the inspiration!!
Soft coolers work too. They make soft cooler fish bags and I've heard they work really well keeping your fish cold. My only concern with a soft cooler has been if they clean well. Maybe one day I'll try one to see what I think.
Why you don’t put your fishing poles on the downrigger pole holders instead? Questions from newbies who will be fishing like your down rigger setup. Thanks!
I do use my downrigger rod holders, but only when I'm double stacking my lines. With my boat set up, I find it easier to use Scotty oar lock mounts and use a rod holder with them. This way, the rods are easier to access for everyone on the boat, especially my kids. Check out my double stacking video to see the Scotty downrigger rod holders in action. Here's the video. @@MrBento12345 I'm glad you like it. I enjoy sharing my experiences with everyone.
Nice day to be out fishing, I am going next week. Ben how do the fish taste from Dragon Lake, I would think muddy , grassy because being shallow. I have a downrigger tip for you which we have used for years. Attach a 3-4 ft line from the ball to your downrigger clip. Take and old broom handle or stick about 3 ft long. Put a screw about 1 inch from the end . Now bring the ball just out of the water, slide the stick end with the screw under the 3-4 ft clip line and just pull up and there is your clip out of the water and in easy reach without you having to bring the down rigger up ,. This way your down rigger line stays taught. Now having the clip line long does two things , one since your rod line is attached to the clip line 3-4 ft back from the ball you can see those light nibbles etc that kokanne do at times and second it is easier to then to watch your tip give even the slightest wiggle which is not deadened by the clip and or its line being deadened by being so close to the cannon ball. We use 2 to 4 lb balls only larger when we have to go past 30 ft down. Yes there is more sway back especially with the lighter balls but you can adjust for that, it is only a couple of feet up with a 2 lb ball. Try the longer clip line and hook stick and say good by to downrigger tangles and having to tip up the downrigger every time.
I am not a fan of the taste of the fish in Dragon. As you mention, they can be muddy tasting most of the year. This is just my personal opinion. As for long downrigger clips, I have tried this. In fact, they were too long where I was worried about tangling in my motor. I thought the same thing about hanging the clip inside the boat. I thought about making a retrieving stick, but never got around to it. Maybe this is something I'll try soon.
@@FougereFamilyAdventures with a 3 ft clip line you won't get near your motor , I use 4 ft in my 12 ft Lund and never had a problem. they always trail straight back. To make the stick all you need is a 1 in piece of dowel 3 ft long or similar and a screw. Not rocket science.
I agree. The long release clips I made were waaayyy too long. 🤣
So much fun, the weather was perfect too! Great video!

Would you want to let me know what time of year this is and do you have a depth range you would target them in at that time of year?
This was in the summer time. Depths range depending on the water temperature and time of the day. Start with 60-80ft and work +/- on either side of these depths.
nice video....what is the depth your fishing? and are you fishing the bottom? cheers
We fish all different depths depending on the time of the year. We mark most fish around 60 and 80ft, but have also caught fish in as shallow as 40ft and as deep as 200ft. In this video, we were fishing the bottom.

@@TigerShark2700 you're welcome. Good luck out there.
do you guys not like eating bows? are they not good eating from around that area?
We prefer eating kokanee. Growing up on the coast, I ate a lot of salmon. I like trout when it's cooked over a camp fire with some bread and butter, but other than that, I would choose kokanee most days if I had a choice. That being said, I've been thinking about trying some trout from a variety of lakes in the area this year. I'm curious to learn if there's a difference between the taste between rainbows from different lakes (shallow versus deep).

I'm glad you liked it. Paulina Peak and Mack's Lure make some great stuff. I would love a bow mounted motor one day on any sized boat I have. I've been getting into jigging for multiple species and really like it. A bow mounted motor with anchor lock would be amazing. It would also be amazing for trolling in the wind giving me more time to focus on fishing.
Awesome fish.🫡🎣
It was a great day! 😁
Gotta question the fish handling here, the flopping on the dock seems unhealthy for the fish Otherwise great vid showing hardware gets it done yet again on this lake. Dock looks nice!
I like to keep the fish in my catch and release net to prevent them from touching the dock surface. Good observation. As anglers, we should always try our best to protect the fish if we are releasing them. More often than not, when we are catch and release fishing, we don't even bring the fish into our boat (or the dock). We usually release them from the net and into the water. Gear can out fish fly fishing techniques on this lakes at times (not always). As you know, we love gear fishing.
Hey there. Thought I'd check out your channel here, as you were checking out mine. Thanks. I like all the fishing stuff you have on here. Seems as though you have better fishing opportunities out in BC than when we have here in Ont. I mainly go after smallmouth and pike. Seems as though the abundance of fish here has really declined over the last 20 years or so. The ministry has restocking programs in effect, but it all seems to be going very slowly. Oh well, fingers crossed.
Thanks for tuning in. We love fishing. Wish I could fish for bass and pike. Happy fishing!
Awesome fishing! If i may, what's the size of spoon did you guys used to fish in the dock? Thank you!
It was a lot of fun. We have 3 sizes of spoons in copper and gold. We caught fish on all of them, with the middle size being the most productive. I believe the sizes we have are 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2oz. I'll be sure to check next time we go fishing.
Where is the new dock in the lake located?
This dock is at the public boat launch on Quesnel Hydraulic rd.

Pretty good fishing, your boys are having fun and that is what it is all about. Ben your boys have grown a lot since your first videos. Almost doubled in height. Soon they are going to be taller than you.
It was great fishing and yes, they are the ones pushing to go fishing on the dock. There's something special about fishing from a dock. And yes, they're growing. I think Ethan is already taller than me.
Also I herd the launch was damaged. did you have a look at it at all when you were there.

Glad you liked it. The dock will get used a lot I'm sure.
That was awesome.
I'm glad you liked it
Also you don't want to set the hook on a circle hook, you want to let the hook set itself. That's why they're more commonly used with dead sticking live bait or cut bait.
Good information. I might try circle hooks again. My thoughts are that the hooks don't have enough time to "settings the fishes mouth when they strike my lure on the retrieve. I think they would still be great if fishing trout on bait, but they do not seem effective when casting spoons.
@@FougereFamilyAdventures yeah I primarily use circle hooks exclusively because I'm a live bait and cut bait fisherman so I've been using circle hooks for years mainly for catch and release of trophy size fish. One suggestion for you if you're going after trout with a circle hook is a good setup is a berkley powerbait power egg floating magnum with garlic scent and a size 4 circle hook. And I recommend a size 4 circle hook for trout because with circle hooks you actually want the gap to be a little bigger than you would with a traditional J hook so that it sets in the corner of the mouth perfectly with the shank of the hook against the jawline of the fish. A general rule is whatever size you use with J hooks go one size up with circle hooks so for like trout the biggest I'll go with a J hook is size 6 so with a circle hook I use a size 4. Also another pro tip is wait 5 full seconds after the rod tip bends before you even lift up the rod what I do is I count in my mind 1/100 2/100 3/100 4/100 5/100 and then I lift up the rod slowly and start reeling. And I get a perfect hook set every time I do that, the reason for waiting 5 full seconds is so that it gives the fish time to get fully hooked. And you don't have to worry about fish getting unhooked with circle hooks once they're hooked they're hooked until you unhook them. That's why they use them on trotlines in rivers because they can get hooked one day and you can come back the next day and harvest them and not have to worry about them getting away.
@@TheIconicFisherman good advice. I'll be sure to try this next time I'm fishing bait for trout.
So with circle hooks you want as much hook exposure as possible in order for them to actually work. And this comes down to the physics of how they work in the first place. But basically without that hook exposure it won't be able to go into the corner of the mouth and hook itself properly. I see a lot of trout fisherman making the same mistake over and over again until they eventually give up on circle hooks. And then they think they're not effective when they actually are you just want less bait and more hook exposure than you would with a regular hook.
what time of year? Thanks for sharing!
This was June/July
How deep when you say shallow? What time of year? Thanks for sharing!
